Restaurant Review - Urban Coffee Roaster (Updated) - Hong Kong

The place for coffee (and tiramisu) lovers.

(Updated on 2-2-2019)

Compared with my last visit, my items ordered was the same salad but a different dessert. The Fig, Kale Salad (HKD 98) was as fresh as last time. Again, I would be happier if there's more nuts and more blueberry dressings since the taste of it was quite light. For the Japanese Caramel Pudding (HKD 48), it has an artistic look which became quite a surprise for me. I could not help thinking the dessert is quite the highlight for this place

This time we visited the outlet in a different location which is inside a furniture store - in a relatively low key area. Still, it provides a comfortable and quiet environment for diners to enjoy the meals.

This Fig, Kale Salad with Ricotta Cheese, Nut, in Blueberry Balsamic Dressing (HKD 98) is a decent one. Fresh fruits plus fresh veggies, nothing much could go wrong. We would say the nuts were way too little than we expected, and we can hardly taste any of them since the portion was small. The homemade blueberry dressing was an area that gain its marks but we also found it was less than it should be. Slightly overpriced (also with the 10% service charge), we would conclude.

The Tofu Mousse Cake (HKD 58) is supposed to be a light treat as we assume the ingredient is tofu, instead of milk. However, we found it quite heavy in taste and the level of sweetness was high enough to be a super rich dessert. Anyways, the caramel sauce was smooth and thick that matched well with the cake. Presented in a nice way, the price setting was reasonable as well.

Coming to this place during Christmas time and I was surprise to see there is well-decorated Christmas tree near the entrance haha.

Again, I have order this Portobello Quinoa Salad (HKD 68) like last time. If you compare these two photos, you can see that the red cabbage has been greatly increased in terms of the portion, and the added raw onion. Glad to see there's some improvements, or adjustments for the dishes so as to stay on the track. Fulfilling! Yet to try their desserts though...

Impression

This cafe is located near the main road in Prince Edward. When you hit the ground and look around, you would find that the street were so quiet, the shops nearby were either closed by belonged to some old-fashioned business that I doubted if it was still running. So I would say this cafe was like a local gem in the district, providing quality food in a relatively quiet (after all, what exactly next to this place is the busy main road) environment.

We started our afternoon with this Portobello Quinoa Salad (HKD 68). Everything was within our expectation except the grilled mushroom was quite juicy with the right amount of seasoning. The sauce was not heavy - a bit sour and sweet. With a soft-boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, a handful of mushroom, some quinoa and salad vegetables, the salad was not that boring.

The classic Tiramisu (HKD 25) is not an ordinary one as you can see in the photo. The creative presentation and remake certainly gave this dessert its uniqueness. The cream was half in the liquid state with 4 relatively huge lady finger. I did not feel the heaviness of this one because of the minimal heavy cream and sugar. It was a beautiful end to my afternoon tea.

Wrap up

I have actually ordered a cup of Iced Black Coffee (not pictured) after the meal and it was ordinary. As the name suggested, this place is famous for its high quality coffee (some coffee beans are exclusive to this cafe). If you are a big fan of coffee (I am not one yet, unfortunately), I would suggest dropping by and giving it a try.
