Restaurant Review - Okiteyaki - Kaohsiung (Taiwan)

Cooking with heart in a Japanese environment.

Impression

This place was mainly constructed with woods. It very much looked like a traditional local Japanese restaurant. Grilled food, Japanese oden, don, fried food are among the most popular dishes served here.

We started with this Japanese Umeshu which has rich flavor of plum and I was not surprised when we were told that it was a rewarded drink in Japan.

A little oden cart has been placed outside the restaurant for making fresh oden for customers. Such a spot! I appreciated such little things that restaurant did - this cart could not be seen very often in Taiwan.

This Salted and Grilled Fish (NTD 160) was a bit salty (as the name suggested), but it still scored with the crispy skin. The lemon juice was incredibly refreshing when it mixed with the fish.

Chicken Wing Mentaiko (NTD 140) was a clear winner of the night - the grilled skin was so crispy and the presentation was neat. I bet you could not imagine how much fish coe was put inside the wings. The seaweed that garnished the wings added an extra flavor of the meat.

This Japan Red Miso Roasted Pork (NTD 135) were heavenly – the idea of searing the pork and complementing it with green onion and carrot made this dish absolutely mouth-watering. The fat made the texture really silky.

Wrap up

I would highly recommend their oden (could have some fun when choosing your ingredients) and grilled food - all were of excellent quality with reasonalbe price. The outdoor environment here was spectacular given that the weather in Kaohsiung was nice most of the time. With local Japanese-styled interior design, this is the place to have some relaxing moments with friends and family.
