Restaurant Review - The Balcony - Hong Kong

Fine dining place in the busy district

Impression

The reason we described it as "busy" because downstairs it is near the main road in the district and we could imagine there are tons of cars and people passing by for every seconds...This place is located in a low-rise building which is relatively low key, that you could easily pass by without noticing there could be few restaurants opened in this building.

It has brought slight disappointment to us when this Beetroot Cured Salmon with Wasabi Tobiko Salad (HKD 68) is served because the portion was quite small. Basically there were just 2 slices of salmon with a mouthful of salad veggies. We were not expecting a big bowl of course, but at least more than this. Anyways, the flavour of the Wasabi Tobiko is quite interesting, salty and fresh. The salmon itself is flavourful enough to be a good match with the veggies even without its tahini.

Our main Pan Grilled Pork Burger Steak with Spaghetti Carbonara in Sea Urchin Sauce (HKD 168) is quite a popular one as we saw most of the other diners have it ordered too. It smells so good when served! The spaghetti was so creamy with the specially-made sauce, which tasted good but just do not expect to get a strong flavour of sea urchin as it has been totally melted in the sauce already. The texture steak burger was a bit dry, not as juicy as we expected - the cheese covered on top was a good one though.

Meet and Exceed?

The service here was quite attentive, with questions like "Do you have to wait till every parties arrived for the dishes to serve?". We also enjoyed how they have managed to make the whole serving process so smooth that the waiting time for the items are quite efficient. Except the salad that we would not recommend, the Main are all good and feel free to give them a try!
