Restaurant Review - The Mon - Hong Kong

Japanese food in comfy place!

Impression

The Grilled Green Pepper (HKD 35) came first to start our night. No doubt the grilled items are one of the must-order here as they have been done really well with just-the-right-amount of seasoning. Most importantly, the timing control is professional that vegetables, which is usually easy to be over-grilled, were being prepared in a perfect well.

The EDO Style Omelette (HKD 48) should be one of the most popular items in this place. Well, it did not disappoint us at all with its creamy and soft texture - where as the white carrot on the side has for sure did its job in giving the omelette an extra kick. The omelette itself was flavourful with the earthiness of egg. Basically we guess every diners here have ordered one or two of these kinds of omelette haha.

Surprisingly, this Toya Roll (HKD 58) is in fact our favourite of the night. The grilled eel, crab roe, avocado and mayo were wrap in the savory pancakes. The ingredients matched absolutely well with each other and is a superb combination. With the pancakes, it becomes quite a nice texture and easy to eat. Not the ordinary roll with sushi, but with a relatively new approach in creating it. Lovely!

The Spaghetti with Parsley and Garlic Sauce (HKD 70) is an interesting one. Who comes to Japanese place to order Western food? haha that's us. We intentionally ordered this item because we were curious in knowing how would this place handle such a classic Western dish. Turned out it was within our expectations - with the fresh herb and the al dente spaghetti. It has been seasoned in the right way that it was not overly salty or oily. And the pepper was simply for decoration as it was not spicy at all.

This Fried Beef Rice in Stone Pot (HKD 75) was also an interesting one as there's Korean kimchi lol. As you can imagine, it was super hot when served and the staff has helped with the stirring. Mixing those onion, kimchi, beef, seaweed and green onions, absolutely a comfort food in winter. The portion of the meats are good for two people to share too.

Meet and Exceed?

One thing we particularly enjoyed here is the spacious seating area. Your privacy has been ensured with all the carefully-planned tables and seats so that there are abundant space between tables. As a whole, there is not many wow-dishes that guarantee our next return but it for sure hit our expectations with its reasonable price setting. We understand that their sushi and sashimi received tons of positive feedback too and we would give them a try next time!
