Restaurant Review - Zerve Bar and Billiards (Updated) - Hong Kong

When you are offered more than you expected...

It is interesting to read our review of the same place that has been written by us few months ago. Why? Because we still had the same feeling after the second visit haha. Still, we ordered Crispy Pork Knuckle (HKD 138), and trying out the Classic Thin-crust Pizza (HKD 128) and Spaghetti Carbonara (HKD 98). All of them are of high quality and freshly made. Very good in value given that the portion is huge and the passion that the chef has put in preparing them. 

During our visit, it was in the Happy Hour period that we could enjoy the buy-one-get-one-free for the drinks. Wow! One more reason for us to go.

Impression

This place is located in the area where there are numerous bars nearby. Competition was fierce and I believe there must be something special in this pub to let it able to afford two floors in this prime building.

In a heartbeat, our drinks Long Island (HKD 98) has arrived. The price was inclusive with 2 rounds and the taste was nothing less than what we expected. Refreshing!

The Grilled Angus Striploin with Sauteed Onion (HKD 118) was the first hit. The meat were tender (especially with a bit fat on it as you can see in the picture) and not at all gamey. Complementing it with the fried garlic and mustard made this dish absolutely mouth-watering. 

The Spaghetti Aglio E Olio (HKD 88) was your choice if you fancy spicy food, though I would agree with you that it did not look spicy at all haha Our only gripe was the overused of oil which made it taste a bit heavy.

I must say this Crispy Pork Kunckle with Honey Gravy (HK 138) was the absolute star of the show. Needlessly to say, its skin was as crispy as it looked in the photo (and as suggested by its name) and the amount of flavoring was just right. The portion was huge that can easily served 2 to 3 people as a dish - but given the amount of love I have towards it, I could have finished it by myself lol Okay, the sauce in black was amazing. Pardon me I am such an amateur cook that I could not say what has been used but it was sweet with a special fruit-like flavor which matched very well with the killer-meat.

Wrap up

We didn’t come here with high expectations, but were absolutely surprised by what they offered. Too many times that we have been to pubs that served high-priced-and-not-worth-it drinks, poor food (as they are proud of serving drinks only) and smoky environment, this one was a decent surprise for us and for sure exceed our expectations.
