Restaurant Review - Long Feng Hao (updated) - Hong Kong

A great deal for some Taiwanese dinner!

Updated on 2-1-2019

This Four Spirits Soup (HKD 52) is one of the classics in history and we all know that it is good all almost every human beings to drink once in a while. But I got to tell you that this is the very first time I gave it a try haha. Turned out it was a bit more bitter than I thought, probably because of all the Chinese herbs and the ingredients. I would not say it was like some Chinese herbal tea, because of its generous ingredients, but the bitterness reminded me of that.

Well, I could not resist the temptation of ordering this Dry Hsinchu Rice Noodles with Marinated Minced Pork (HKD 38) again, though I should have tried other items haha. So you could imagine how good this is! Quality is consistent, the minced pork was as excellent as last time - not fatty at all and super flavourful. The raw garlic was the highlight which brought extra taste to this dish. What could be better for such an economical dish?

Impression

This place is located in a building not really close to the MTR station, do expect at least 7 minutes walk before you hit it. There were several dining places nearby and this one should be the only one serving authentic Taiwanese dishes (I guess). Desks and chairs were being placed in a neat way, clean environment with good lighting. We came during a weekday early night and it was around 40% full.

The Marinated Tofu (HKD 32) arrived first to start our night. They have been marinated well without being too salty - with just the right amount of soy sauce. The sauce they used should be the same for the braised pork since we saw that little cubed of pork on the tofu haha. Anyways, this one is a nice one as a starter regarding its portion and taste, especially if you are a tofu lover.

The Dry Hsinchu Rice Noodle with Marinated Minced Pork (HKD 38) was more special than we thought. First of all, the minced pork has been well-seasoned, using quality meats and sauce; second, the added raw garlic paste came as a surprise to us, that was spicy and matched really well with the pork; and third, the veggies and the little dried shrimp are a unique combination for the rice noodles. All in all, this one is so yummy!

We have to order this Taiwan Mini "Buddha Jumps over the wall" (HKD 78) because of its creativity. We have never seen any similar dishes in other Taiwanese restaurants and it successfully brought up our curiosity haha. This one was not disappointing at all - generous amount of ingredients and served seriously hot. A super comforting one to enjoy during dinner time. Lots of nutritions there as well, including the vegetarian shark's fins taro, chestnuts, mushrooms, quail's eggs, spare ribs, pig knuckles and fish skin. Wow!

This Taiwanese Traditional Braised Pork on Rice (HKD 38) is hands down one of the best Taiwanese braised pork rice we have ever eaten. The pork belly are diced to small pieces, with the fatty portion that melts in your mouth instantly. The stock is thick and savory.. Well, this has become my new comfort food. A must try for sure!

Meet and Exceed?

It's too easy to grab Taiwanese food in Hong Kong and somehow it becomes a reason that some of the places are not able to live up the diners' expectations towards their food items - no matter in terms of the quality, price, or the surroundings. We would say this place is a hidden gem in this eateries-filled district, serving quality authentic Taiwanese food, and at the same time with few creative and unique dish, such as the "Buddha Jump Wall". We appreciated the efforts that the management team has been into creating these and we will be back!
