Restaurant Review - Ming Kee Dessert - Hong Kong
Impression
I bet you could not ever imagine how long the queue is when you were just trying to get some desserts on a Friday night lol. We were done with our dinner and were looking for somewhere to satisfy our sweet tooth. Finally, after passing by few places, we were attracted to this one because of its half-open kitchen that we could see the staff were walking around making different desserts for diners. It was not entirely open - of course - but we felt like we are somehow involved in the process (but looking at it haha) and we like it.
This Sesame Rice Ball in Ginger Soup (HKD 30) started our night. Its soup base tasted very raw in ginger - the natural flavour of ginger absolutely shined on this one without having too much sugar blocking the view. A lot of similar dishes in other places have added way too much sugar (whatever types) that somehow confused me if the focus is on ginger. Okay, so we really like this one because of this brave move - not having much sweetness and we 100% enjoyed it.
This Stewed Papaya with Snow Fungus (HKD 30) did not disappoint us as well. As you can see in the picture below, the portion of the ingredients were very generous, and they were fresh too. The payayas were so sweet and soft, and when combining with the snow fungus, delicious! Again, the soup base was not too sweet that we really appreciated.
On the other hand, this Dried Beancurd & Ginkgo Nuts Soup (HKD 28) was relatively sweet. Apart from that, it was all good. The beancurd has been melted into the soup so the texture of the base was quite thick with light flavour of almonds. Few ginkgo nuts at the bottom and the hard-boiled egg were nothing out of our expectation.
This Original Souffle (HKD 40) smells so good when it served. We love the earthy flavour of the eggs and its smoothness. It may look like a bit tough but it was actually softer than we thought. It was huge, but very soft to the point that it sounds nothing has gone to your belly after finishing the whole plate haha. By the way, it was an made to order item so please be prepared to wait patiently for around 15 to 20 minutes for its arrival.
Meet and Exceed?
We overall enjoyed all the four desserts that we ordered due to their taste and presentation. Though mostly that we ordered were Chinese classic desserts, we appreciated how they have offered other types of creative desserts, like Egg Pudding with Marshmallow, for the diners. Such unique ones are not commonly seen in other places so we are keen to try them out next time during our visit!Ming Kee Dessert // 852-2898-5888 // Facebook page
