Restaurant Review - 9 3/4 Cafe - Hong Kong

Time for some magic moments in a Western cafe!

Impression

Located in one of the busiest district in Hong Kong, it surely requires you something more than "tasty food" to survive. Theme-cafe becomes a trend and to be sustainable, it needs to be interesting and likable alike for most of the diners. Well, we always came back to a restaurant for a reason. We enjoy how this place has eased us once we hit the floor and being greeted by the not-commonly-found magic sticks!

Our night started with this Fish & Chips (HKD 88). It was such a decent surprise. The size of this one is huge! Both of them were freshly made so they were very crispy with enough seasonings to make them mouthwatering enough. A bit spicy powder has been added to the fries and together with the sweet sauce, the clash in taste has made us finished the plate faster than you could imagine.

This Creamy Scallop Spaghetti with Black Truffle Sauce (HKD 108) was no doubt a good one. There was a generous amount of scallops with a spoonful of black truffle sauce on top. The spaghetti has been cooked to perfection, nothing we could complain. The scallop was slightly salty though - but we still love how rich the sauce was.

This Baked Iberia Pork Chop (HKD 198) could almost be worth the trip alone. Very well grilled and the meat itself contains the right amount of fat - just enough to melt into your mouth after the first bite. All it needs it some salt and pepper, and it tasted like heaven. For meat lovers, do not pass on this. The sauce was a sour one plus the mashed purple yum as side dish, perfecto!

Purple Yam Risotto with Chicken (HKD 88) has reminded me what food is supposed to taste like: earthy and packed with natural goodness. The purple colour is naturally from the purple yam itself with the use of its puree. It has been sprinkled with some herbs to give the taste a kick. The added sliced mushroom and chicken matched well with the risotto - the only thing was the meat has slight fat on it that I may not prefer them.

Mango Yogurt (HKD 55) was an end to our satisfying dinner. It was sweet with not very strong flavour in mango. Even for the drinks, they do not forget to add some magic element into it. We were glad to see a paper stroll is being used instead the plastic one!

Meet and Exceed?

This place is always a good spot to spend your time in a Harry-Porter-styled environment and put aside what is happening in the real world. No matter the ambiance, the food or the drinks, everything has embraced the theme of magic and you can easily feel that the owner has the passion in providing a decent experience for the diners. For this second visit, we were mostly impressed by the expected attentive service and the Iberia Pork Chop for the dishes part - one of the juiciest we have ever tasted!
