Restaurant Review - Nest Private Chef Kitchen - Hong Kong





Impression

Sichuan food is always one of the most classic types in China. There are number of places serving it in Hong Kong, and most of them focus on how spicy the food is and how much pepper they add into the dishes so as to be very "Sichuan". But we understand that there's something more than purely being spicy as Sichuan food, it's also about the herbs and the seasoning. We should be more open-minded in tasting new places serving different styles of Sichuan dishes.



The Smoked Duck Egg (HKD48 for 2) tasted very, well, smokey, and that's a compliment in fact. Most other Sichuan restaurants do not usually make the egg taste smokey enough, but this place has successfully nailed it. With a smokey outside and a runny egg yolk inside. So delicious! We would highly pairing it with some carbs like steamed bun, rice or noodles.


This Fried Salted Duck Egg with Prawns (HKD 88 for each) is really the best of the night! This is one of the biggest prawn I've seen in a while. The prawn is big and meaty. Deep fried with a crunchy outside and with chewy prawn meat insde, the outside of the prawn is coated with salted egg yolk, giving it a savory and fatty texture. The sauce basically matched well with everything from veggies and other kinds of meat haha.


The Pork Meat Jelly (HKD 102) is a rather common dish that can be found in other Sichuan restaurants. However, this restaurant has taken a refreshing approach to making this classic dish. Instead of giving you a little plate of black vinegar to dip the meat jelly with, the vinegar itself is made into jelly directly and meld into one piece with the meat jelly. Quite a special and delicious treat. We enjoyed such surprising element. 


The Fried Broccoli with Garlic (HKD78) is one to balance our meaty dishes haha. It's a bit oily we have to say, but the portion size and the presentation has lived up to our expectations. They have been cooked with the right amount of time too.


Meet and Exceed?


One thing to mention is that, not sure if that's because of the not-too-crowded environment or not, the serving time of those dishes were really speedy. Like only few minutes, and here's all the things we ordered! Freshly made and we appreciated the efficiency of the chef team. The place is newly opened and you can still smell the new decorations lol Some spicy food we were yet to try, maybe next time!
