Restaurant Review - The Night Market - Hong Kong

Yet to try the yummy Taiwanese street food?

Impression

We have been to few places serving Taiwanese food lately, with different level of price setting, to compare the relationship between the quality and the cost. We came here during lunch hour on a weekday. Probably because of the relatively late hour, the place was around 30% full, mostly colleagues I guess lol. From the name of the restaurant, it is quite hard to imagine here is actually serving Taiwanese food haha.

The first set we ordered was the Three Cup Chicken (HKD 98), one of the most classic dishes in Taiwan. All the lunch sets come with three side dishes too. The side dishes was average, nothing out of our expectation and the quality is fine. For the chicken, it was quite a surprise. The meats were very flavouful with sweetness and savory and spiciness from the garlic. They were being well-seasoned and taste was more on the heavy side. The half soft-boiled egg and the minced pork were equally great too - not much fat on the minced pork and "soft" enough for the egg.

In comparison, the taste of this Taiwanese Satay Beef (HKD 98) was relatively lighter. The first reason is obviously it came with some fried vegetables and again they were well-seasoned without being too salty. The meats were tender and soft - and the portion was enough to fill your belly too. This one was less meaty and similarly to the above one, some red peppers have been added to give the overall taste a kick too.

All the lunch sets come with a cup of tea too. I chose the Hot Black Tea this time. The tea was comforting and soothing enough to balance the meaty feeling in my stomach.

Meet and Exceed?

In addition to the quality of food items, what we enjoyed here particularly is the cozy and spacious environment. Utensils were being arranged in a neat and nice way and everything was tidy. One thing we realized is that the cup (for filling water) was not that clean as we can smell something abnormal...We guess it was the scent of cooking oil. This is the area the place seriously need to improve, and the rest are fine!
