Restaurant Review - One Canteen Bistro - Hong Kong

A surprisingly good place for lunch!

Impression

You will never get bored in exploring new eateries in Kowloon City because this place is really crowded with restaurants. Most famous with its Thai places, I found there are other choices that may be as attractive as Thai's too. (because they are appealing to me haha) Walking along the street, we were attracted to this place because of its neat entrance and clear menu stand outside.

The Curry Chicken with Rice (HKD 88) was for sure a surprise. The curry here was made with yogurt, so you could imagine the level of spiciness was in fact very mild, with a extra smoothness because of the use of yogurt. Quite unique. The chicken itself was fresh without having too much skin on. And the potatoes were well done too. And all lunch sets include a cup of hot drink.

The Homemade Japanese Pork Ramen (HKD 73) was certainly a delight. First of all, the pork itself was more on the sweet side with slight fat and tender in texture. Secondly, the soup base was not salty at all. Some so-called legit classic ramen has a soup base which is very high in sodium that I always have concern regarding its effect to our liver for long-term consumption. Thirdly, the portion was large enough to fill my fairly big belly. The only thing is that the soft-Boiled egg was not "soft" enough.

Meet and Exceed?

The curry sauce is definitely the reason for us to consider coming back again because it was really delicious! The environment was comfy enough for you to chat with your friends for a while after the meal. By the way, during lunch hour it still has 10% service charge for diners. I would say it was barely an attractive price if taking this into consideration for a quick lunch, but the quality of it would be able to live up to your expectations.
