Restaurant Review - Big Fish House - Hong Kong

Second time visiting. Worth coming for their dinner?

Impression

This is the first time we came to this place during dinner time. We paid a second visit because we were impressed by the good value of the lunch set and would like to give the dinner set a try. The day we came was a weekday early evening, ie around 6:30pm, so as expected the place was not crowded and we were arranged to sit near the half-open kitchen.

The Grilled Cod Fish (HKD 88) was a nice one. It has been grilled with the right amount of time and the skin was slightly crispy. Some salad vegetables on the side with vinegar as salad dressings which is quite refreshing too. The seasoned white miso for the cod fish was a bit salty but still within reasonable range.

We have ordered two sushi, on the left is the Rea Bream (HKD 38) and on the right Fatty Toro (HKD 68). The fish itself was fresh undoubtedly; however, to be honest, these were quite disappointing especially the toro one. It was of the highest price in the sushi menu and listed as Chef Recommendation, but we did not taste how "fatty" it is and it was a thin slice. It just did not live up to our expectations with this price.

The presentation of the Radish & Pig Soft Bone with Miso Sauce (HKD 52) was eye-catching with the sprinkled green onion. The texture of the pork was very tender and soft without too much fat. There were also two chunk of radish and some carrot which has balanced the fattiness of the pork. Everything was fine, we would just expect a larger portion.

The Angus Beef Udon in Pot (HKD 78) came last and was probably the most satisfying dish for us of the night. We love the Angus beef a lot - very tender (while without too much fat) and managed to be half-cooked with served. So it was at the best state when we ate them. The soup itself was not very salty but enough to taste the miso flavour. There were common ingredients in the pot too, for example, mixed mushroom, half-boiled egg, Narutomaki and scallion.

Meet and Exceed?

For the service, it was up to our expectation - plates were being handled efficiently and the bill was being settled once we showed the sign of leaving. If you consider visiting the place for a meal, we would highly recommend you to come during lunch hour for their Japanese lunch set which we think is of much higher value with stable quality.
