Restaurant Review - Crazy Noodles - Hong Kong
Authentic Sichuan (Chongqing) noodles with hot kicks!
Impression
This place is more neat and spacious than we expected. Usually, whenever we heard the term Sichuan food, the adjective "spicy" comes to our mind which belongs to our first impression towards it. However, this place keeps educated diners that Sichuan food is much more than "spicy" - it is about using the right herbs and spices so that the natural flavour of the ingredients shine. Spiciness is not equal to Sichuan dishes. This place focus on provide Sichuan noodles (you could choose red soup base or white soup base) and we did not hesitate to give it a try.The Noodles with Ribs (HKD 83 with a side dish and a drink) did not disappoint us. It was sprinkled with generous amount of green onion, mushroom and veggies (choi sum). For this bowl, I have asked for an additional portion of ribs (HKD 20) and beef tongue (HKD 13 for 4 slices), so it would be less if you order the original one. The texture of the noodles had the right amount of springiness, nothing less than we expected. And the (white) soup base was nice without tasting too salty. If you fancy the hot kick, do go for the red soup base.
We did not find this Grilled Spicy Eggplant (additional HKD 28) itself anything phenomenal but it was tender, juicy and works well with all the ingredients. It did serve as a really great starter. There's quite a lot of spicy oil but it did not taste as spicy as it looks - the flavour was relatively mild if you are carefully enough to avoid the seeds haha.
This purple drink (additional HKD 8) is very much like a cold soft drink but with some tiny cubed pear at the bottom. A good one to pair with your bowl of spicy noodles but we might prefer something more simple next time.
Meet and Exceed?
With reasonable price and tidy environment, we do not see any reasons of not coming back if we fancy Sichuan spicy (or not spicy) noodles. We particularly enjoyed the side dishes which have been seasoned with just the right amount without being oily or salty. During our visit, we saw the diners kept coming in starting from 7pm and we absolutely believe this is a place with potential to grow and take up the responsibility to let more people know what is authentic Sichuan noodles.Crazy Noodles // 852-2311-3905 // Facebook page
