Restaurant Review - Hurricane Bar+Kitchen - Hong Kong

Enjoying Italian cuisines with great view!

Impression

The restaurant is located at the 18th floor while the bar is at the 19th floor. So the waitress has been busily running up and down for the drinks and hot dishes. We have been arranged to sit near the window, luckily, and we could enjoy the view of the whole district since there's not much blocking in view in front of us. Together with the high ceiling in the place, the environment has already provided you a zone to start your comfort-eating.

Our night started with these complimentary housemade warm bread with 3 different flavours. All of them had a crispy crust and were perfect as a starter. My personal favourite would be the flax seed one because of its light flavour plus the tender texture. We have been served with two plates of the vinegar with olive oil too.

The Daily Quiche (HKD 98) for this time was the spinach with cheese. Freshly baked and nicely presented. The filling was very rich and creamy, and you can easily sense the earthiness of cheese. The taste of spinach was relatively mild but still had its place in providing the bring green color and the fibre. Probably because of the cheese - it was slightly salty though.

The Cauliflower Soup with Black Truffle (HKD 60) was relatively thick in terms of its texture. We enjoyed how strong the black truffle taste like and the richness of flavour without being too heavy (or feeling there's too much heavy cream in it). Still, the taste of cauliflower was quite light and the black truffle has obviously stood out.

The Minestone (HKD 60) has not disappointed us though it was a common item on menus. You could see there were many chopped vegetables and the fresh herbs too. The amount of them were generous. Compared with the above one, this one was lighter for both the taste and the texture. The mixed veggies make the soup so refreshing.

Here's the main course. Roasted Cumin Eggplant Puree on Portobello Mushroom with Asparagus (HKD 198) for sure requires much effort in preparing it. The four little mushrooms at the corner area have been perfectly grilled which they were so juicy with the earthy flavour of mushroom. The puree has been handled well too that there was not any strong taste of eggplant itself. Last but not least, it looked so pretty!

Meet and Exceed?

In terms of the environment and the service, it was well beyond average; for the dishes part, everything's good too particularly with the awesome and creative presentation. However, when taking into the price setting into consideration, the portion of the food itself needs to be adjusted accordingly. If you are looking for a place for family or friends gathering, this would be a good place for some great chats!
