Restaurant Review - Tatsujin Ramen - Hong Kong





Have some Japanese ramen in a playful Japanese environment!




Impression



The decorations here are very Japanese-styled. And interestingly, lots of traditional Japanese toys are placed all over the wall and around the shop. It has brought back some of my childhood memory as I was quite familiar with few haha. On each table, there is a variety of seasoning available including pickles, spice powder, and fresh garlic. So for the same dish, you could freely mix and match with different seasoning and create a super unique flavor.



The Black Garlic Oil Ramen (HKD 92) has a very strong taste of garlic in its soup base. The roast pork was very fatty (and yes, the color was as pale as it looks in the picture) and the fat melted at once in your moth as you eat it. Half way through, I have added some crushed fresh garlic to the ramen which enhanced the flavor even more. It might not be shown in the picture below clearly, but two half soft-boiled eggs were given (which means one full egg lol). Love it!




This Grilled Pork Gristle Rice Bowl (HKD 80) was impressive not because of its presentation, but its generous portion of the gristle. To be honest, the group of corns on the side did not make it look particularly impressive (healthy though), but the fact that they have put much gristle in it had us surprised. And there were not much fat on it, the texture was relatively tender, but not belong to the most tender group which was nice.




Wrap up


We were never bored of tasting different version of Japanese ramen, and very possibly never will be. This one has for sure exceed our expectations if you take its price setting into consideration. In my opinion, the effort has been focused more on the ingredients and portion instead of the presentation. Regarding the location, it's convenient and I do not see many similar places nearby. So do give it a try if you are close.
