Restaurant Review - Labar - Hong Kong
Locally local Chengdu SPICY food!
Impression
Without being a usual spicy lover, very often I avoid putting restaurant specialized in making spicy food in my first priority; however, once in a while, there's some craving for spiciness appeared inside my stomach and calling me to look for somewhere to satisfy it. So here we are, booked this place and standing in front of its logo, can we can already feel the strong flavour from its bright red theme color.
The Grilled Fish (HKD 32) and Grilled Tiger Prawn (HKD 68) have been grilled and seasoned in all the right ways. They were slightly spicy with enough salt on them to be very flavorful. Even without any additional sauce or dip, you could still find them tempting. Both of them were very fresh.
Grilled Beef Chest (HKD 26) and Grilled Diced Beef (HKD 26) were also delights. Again, we have nothing to complain regarding their seasoning as well as the grilling time. Considering their price level, they were for sure in good value. We particularly enjoyed the diced beef since it was incredibly tender and not at all gamey, and the fat had melted in your mouth creating an incredibly addictive umami flavour.
This cup of 8 Treasures Tea (HKD 38) was a comforting one. As the name suggested, there are 8 ingredients/herbs when boiling the tea. And basically we can only count the chamomile, goji berries and red dates. Without knowing the names and exact ingredients in it, we still found this refreshing and able to balance the relatively heavy taste of the dishes.
This Crispy Fish Skin in Three Ways (HKD 68) was another hit. What it meant by three ways is three different ways in making them spicy lol so basically you can see there's 3 different colours. The level of spicy was within our expectation. And the greatest thing was they were really crispy and particularly enjoyable when serving cool. Such a delight as a starter - absolutely the star of the show! Love it so much.
Meet and Exceed?
Located in the heart of this busy district, this place is no doubted a charm in providing spicy Cheungdu dishes in a mixture of traditional plus modern style. Certain elements have been kept whereas keeping up with the modern taste and presentation, which gave this place its uniqueness and reasons for diners to come back again. We were impressed by the grilled food as well as the starter. There are many more options that we would like to try next time!
