Restaurant Review - Chiu Ball - Hong Kong
Local beef noodles in a chic environment
Impression
The one kind of food you never need to find in Hong Kong is the Hong Kong-styled dishes. Very often, you would find the local restaurants do not pay much attention of the design because well, how many bosses would care the interior design when they earned just thirty something dollars for your lunch. Gradually it becomes a norm and we, consumers, expect nothing when we stepped inside those local restaurants.
Here's the popular Beef Brisket, Tripe & Tendon Rice Noodle plus Premium Beef Ball (HKD 70). We added the Premium Beef Ball because it was housemade and was an unique ingredient for this place. They were surprisingly good - juicy and rich in flavor. They did not look particularly appealing in terms of appearance but after the first bite it would change your impression. Excellent! Except the ordinary rice noodles, every thing were nicely done and flavored.
Pork Knuckle Rice Vermicelli in Soup (HKD 55) was relatively fair. The portion was generous enough considering its price. The thing I would recommend for the chef is to remove clearly the hair on the knuckle...It might sound a bit personal, but it was a no-no when enjoying the knuckle. While everything else was pleasant enough, it does not have the wow factor to be worthy of a re-order.
Wrap up
Well, there are not many places with chic design for some very local dishes with that many housemade ingredients. You may see a lot of local restaurants around, but the surroundings are usually a bit messy with plain design. Here, you can still enjoy local dishes but in a better environment, why not? So I have to say it would be a good place for some casual and local bites.
