Restaurant Review - Involtini Italian Cuisine - Hong Kong

The passion for handmade pasta

Impression

I always appreciate places which served quality handmade pasta as it is definitely an art of creating a so-called masterpiece. Some of the best handmade pasta I had does not necessarily include fancy ingredients or lengthy process, but the technique and passion that you could even feel when you taste it. This place located at Causeway Bay, one of the districts that surrounding with multinational cuisines.

Our night started with this plate after we have placed our order. It has included few slices of bread (2 different flavors), two slices of ham with cream cheese and olive oil. Nothing was a surprise but it was okay as we were there for the pasta, not the starter plate.

The Warm Fish Salad with Tomato Sauce (HKD 158) was quite pleasant. From the look of it, you might probably think it was pumpkin risotto haha. The amount of fish used was quite generous. I was not sure what kind of fish has been selected for this one but it was tender and soft. The tomato puree was smooth as expected without any sourness. Overall a full of character one.

Strigoli with Pesto Sauce (HKD 128) is my go-to whenever visiting a pasta spot. It is straightforward and perfectly simple, still, you can simply tell if it has been prepared well or just so-so. I see it as a kind of solid reference point. For this one, I am so into the chewy texture of the pasta and it was cooked for the right amount of time. The earthiness of fresh basil leaves was obvious and I might prefer some more garlic and pepper to elevate the whole thing up.

Again, the beef used for this Fecttucine with Beef ragu (HKD 188) was quite generous. Pardon me if I am exaggerating a bit - I think the amount of the beef was even more than the amount of pasta! The meat was sublime - juicy and fresh, making it a full-flavored dish. With the freshly hand rolled pasta, it is almost irresistible to pass up.

Wrap up

One thing I forget to mention is that the service was attentive and warm enough to let us feel we are being welcomed. It somehow let us feel we were "home" with the quiet and relaxing ambience. We were arranged to sit near the window - even though the view was nothing close to spectacular (we are in Hong Kong, right?), we still thought it was a pleasant dining experience.
