Restaurant Review - The Veggie - Hong Kong

A local fusion vegan restaurants with a highlight on their desserts bar.

Impression

I am no stranger to vegetarian restaurant. While sometimes I fancy having a feast, saying a hello to my belly and a plant-based meal is still enjoyable. This place was located at the first floor in a low-key plaza. During lunch hours in weekdays, it was not as crowded as the local tea houses as I believe Hong Kong people are still not very into including plant-based diets as their lifestyles.

There's a all-you-can-eat desserts bar, filling with a selection of housemade vegan desserts using only brown sugar as sweeteners. Definitely your choice if you do not fancy heavy desserts - every single one here was light and fruity. In addition to fruity jelly, you could also find some Western vegan cookies and pudding too. My favorite is the Peach gum and snow fungus jelly :)



The Winter Melon & Snow Fungus Soup with Udon & Vegetarian Shrimp (HKD 78) was a delight. The shrimps look so cute right? The texture of it was a bit like fish ball and a bit chewy. The cubed melon gives the dish some freshness and udon was relatively mediocre. By the way, all lunch sets here included a starter and drink as well.



This Pan Fried Baiyee Tofu, Eggplant in Fresh Tomato Sauce with Rice (HKD 69) was a common local dish in Hong Kong, just a healthier plant-based version. I like how they put the sauce (with the right amount) next to the rice so no sauce would be wasted. The amount of tofu was quite generous and again, similar to the vegetarian shrimp above, the texture was quite like fish ball which did not taste like the old tofu that I know.

Wrap up

For the lunch set they provided priced from HKD 69 to HKD 88, it was no doubte in very good value especially the lovely dessert bar was included (and the frequency of refilling the desserts was satisfactory). One thing to mention is that the English translation on their menu is accurate lol Let us support Green Mondays and do some good to our health and environment!
