Restaurant Review - Laoguo Taiwanese Hotpot - Hong Kong
Very comfy hotpot place with reasonable price!
Impression
We have ordered the Taiwanese Beer and Rose Soup (HKD 158) and the Appetising Pickled Cabbage and Pork Soup (HKD 158). The rose one has the aroma of beer and taste of rose was relatively light but I did see some roses in the soup. The latter one was lightly processed and tasted good (of course quite sour). One of the most impressive thing here was perhaps the seasoning. The vinegar oil and garlic juice were something rarely seen in other hotpot places, and they have successfully added a refreshing kick to everything on the table. Yum!
Beef Shank in Garlic Sauce (HKD 58) was nicely presented when served. The garlic sauce were so thick on top of those beef shank and there were abundant sliced cucumber under the meat. It was quite spicy and sour as expected. A nice one as a starter if you fancy some dishes with relatively strong taste.
The size of the Organic Okra (HKD 48) was quite large. And I would say it was not as fresh as we expected; however, the texture was crispy without much hair on it so we were okay with them.
Pork Balls with Preserved Vegetable (HKD 48) was not particularly impressive. It was tender but without much taste of the preserved vegetable. Not much different from an ordinary meatball - I would recommend other dishes if you want to try some more Taiwanese-styled food.
Wrap up
The decorations make use of Chinese style wooden furniture and uses a lot of decorative screens that offers privacy for each table. A very comfortable environment for enjoying a good hotpot meal at a reasonable price. (During my visit, since I used to have dinner at an early time, I was offered a 20% discount of the bill as I finished my meal before 8pm)
